Every year, millions of rugby fans in Australia and the rest of the world anticipate the biggest rivalry in Australian Sports. The New South Wales Blue team and Queensland Maroon team compete against each other in a best-of-three series to decide the best state in each year. Since the series started in the year 1980, Queensland has recorded 21 victories compared to the 15 of New South Wales team. The series ended in the draw twice.
Players are selected into either team based on the state where they play their first rugby league match. Any player selected to compete in the series is regarded both locally and internationally to have reached the pinnacle of rugby league. The State of Origin series is televised in many countries around the world. The broadcasters in each country or region pay a lot of money to have exclusive rights to broadcast the series. Nine Network is the official broadcaster of the series in Australia. ABC and 2GB provide radio broadcasts in Australia for fans who enjoy the State of Origin live streaming on the radio.
